What is the California Karate Club? We are about dreams coming true, that is what we are after all, a dream tha came true. If you want to know how, read this true story... Years ago, in the bathroom of a foreign airport, I lost my wallet. After a weekend lost in the streets of Tokyo, feeling very alone, cold, hungry and tired in a strange land, I met Ken, a philanthropist who helped lost souls such as myself. His organization got me a nice hotel room in downtown Tokyo and a ticket to Okinawa where I stayed with new friends while studying karate every day. Shortly after receiving my black belt, they took me on a trip to a third world village with several medical missionaries . In the midst of those fly-covered children dying of common colds and bacterial infections every day, I found out something most black belt "Gurus" today have no clue about; I found out who I was. On one of my last nights there, under a star cluttered sky that you will never see in any US sky, I knew that my tenure a missionary was not ending, but that it was only just beginning. I was dancing with the local children and knew that I could never come back to America and make the millions in the martial arts that I dreamed of. The fire to be "Champ" was suddenly gone as well, the old dreams replaced by new ones of using my karate for those around me, to give back some of what karate has given me. That is what the California Karate Club is, a dream, that has come true with the help of many truly amazing people. Teaching top-quality karate is a given; these days I am currently studying under several leading masters who I have been very fortunate to meet as well. If I could teach every kid who walks through my doors one thing however, it would be simple. That each and every single one of them is a miracle... That is what we are about - dreams coming true. Karate has taken me around the world and taken me through the best of times and the worst of times. I think I am the luckiest guy alive, that I am able to share that gift with my students, that one day, they may have even a sliver of what it has given me, hopefully ten times as much... Unlike many schools, the CKC is not my primary source of income. it is a labor of love, and if you are clicking onto this for the first time, I invite you to come in and see it. About Sensei Sean Davila Sensei Sean Davila,
the director of the He earned his black belt under Grandmaster Angi Uezu and Sensei Tsuyoshi Uechi - 8th degree black belt master, while serving as a medical missionary in the Southeast Pacific. He still enjoys a close relationship with the island of Okinawa. Currently, he studies under the legendary Willie Adams lineage under the renowned champion, Master Burton Maben. Aside form Isshin-Ryu, he is also well versed in Shoto-kan karate. Isshin-Ryu however, is his first and truest love, and what he chooses to teach.
Well, who is this guy then!!
To him the term "Sensei" is more than just a word bestowing privilege or rank, it is a responsibility; one that many who wear that term today shirk. Sensei Sean currently resides in Venice Beach, CA where he uses martial arts as his form of ministry in LA. And by the way - he loves Mexican food (Hint, Hint Hint).
